2019 Gauteng Sports Awards now open!

This year’s edition of the Gauteng Sports Awards is promised to be bigger and better. This is according to MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Mbali Hlophe, speaking at the launch of the annual ceremony on July 2 at the Johannesburg Stadium.

Nominations are now open with members of the public expected to submit their nominations at various outlets across the province.

The prize money has increased for finalists of all categories from R7500 to R10,000. Amounts for the winners is yet be announced.

The theme as announced by MEC Hlophe is focused on the 25 Years of Democracy and growing Gauteng together. Gauteng public, sports fraternity including clubs have an opportunity to nominate their sports stars for the 2019 Gauteng Sports Awards.

Not only have has the Gauteng Sports Awards rewarded athletes, players and administrators for their efforts in the world of sport but continues to unearth raw talent and endeavours to nurture and develop these talents with the aim of becoming giants in their disciplines.

The Gauteng Sports Awards are truly unique in the way the public is incorporated and brought into the process of deciding the worthy winners. Residents of Gauteng have a proud history of supporting their heroes and rooting for their teams.

The Gauteng Sports Awards promises to be a night of the stars as the Gauteng sports world come together for a night of celebration, excitement and recognition.

The 19 Categories to be considered for the 2019 awards:

• Sports Personality of the Year (SMS)

• Sportsman of the Year

• Sportswoman of the Year

• Sports Team of the Year

• Disabled Sportswoman of the Year

• Disabled Sportsman of the Year

• Disabled Sports Team of the Year

• Coach of the Year

• Most Promising athlete of the Year

• Most Promising team of the Year

• School Sport athlete of the year

• Technical Official of Year

• Administrator of the Year

•Community-based Sport and Recreation programme of the year

•Community media of the Yea

•Sports Fan of the Year (SMS)

• Sports Journalist of the year (This includes print media, radio and television)

•Sports Programme of the Year (Television or radio) (SMS)

•MEC’s Special Awards

Nomination forms will be available at the provincial offices, libraries and sports council offices.
