About Us

Mapepeza, established in 2013 in Heidelberg, Sedibeng, is an award-winning multilingual community newspaper and online news platform catering to townships and rural regions in Gauteng and Mpumalanga. The platform, which recently moved to Johannesburg, delivers a range of news from local government updates to community sports, striving to be the trusted voice for its communities.

With a vision rooted in the Media Development and Diversity Act 2002, Mapepeza promotes media ownership by historically disadvantaged communities. The newspaper collaborates with numerous institutions, is a proud member of the South African Press Council and the Black Media Owners Association (BMOA), and benefits from partnerships with the Media Development & Diversity Agency and the Google News Initiative.
